A Long Journey to Find the Treatment for Pain-----CRPS

I constantly searched the net trying to find some form of treatment which would
address the pain. I came across the Enrac website and realized immediately after
reading a testimonial written by someone who had been successfully treated, that
Dr. Ko and those at Enrac really understood CRPS and
could treat it..,
I decided to go to Taiwan as soon as possible.

l was asked by Enrac to write about my experiences during my visit to Taiwan
for Collateral Meridian Therapy.I had an accident in July 2007 when a
plant pot weighing about 37 kilograms crashed onto my right hand, fracturing three
metacarpals at the knuckle. I experienced such extreme pain from the start that I
was unable to sleep and was afraid of even thelightest touch which would feel
like my skin was on fire or as though I had frostbite.
I experienced cramps. muscle spasms and shooting pains, deep in my elbow,
up and down my arm, and in my hand.
Very few in the medical profession understood what was happening to me, until
I was diagnosed by a Hand Specialist, who explained that I had all the symptoms
 of CRPS.
I researched the CRPS on the internet and was very frightened, but determined to
find a way to conquer this horrible disorder.
I do not like to take large amounts of pain medication and prefer to find more
natural or holistic methods of treatment.
I did Occupational Therapy - to keep movement, Accupuncture - which reduced
the swelling from the o edema, allowing some movement. A friend massaged my
hand twice a day for months.
This massage was like manual lymphatic drainage which cancer patients have after
radiotherapy. It prevented the edema building up making movement difficult.
It also helped to de-sensitize my skin which felt on fire. I did Alexander Technique
to try and maintain good posture so that my whole body did not go into stress.
I also walked a lot. A herbalist mixed up creams and tinctures to treat my nerves, the pain, anxiety and possible depression.
She also taught me pain meditation which was very helpful.
I believe that all of the above treatments worked to keep my system from being
totally traumatized by the pain and allowed me to try to move my hand and wrist.
Generally though, I was still sleepless and most of the time my shoulder,
elbow and hand were in deep stress and locked in a claw position.
I constantly searched the net trying to find some form of treatment which would
address the pain. I came across the Enrac website and realized immediately after
reading a testimonial written by someone who had been successfully treated,  that
Dr. Ko and those at Enrac really undersood CRPS and could treat it.
I had a very strong feeling about it. I told my friend who massaged my hand and
who had been sponsoring alI my treatments, about Enrac and she urged me to
go to Taiwan as soon as possible.
I made the arrangements through the Enrac American Office and it was planned
that I would be met the morning after my arrival by David who speaks fluent
English.I had chosen to have my treatment in TaoYuan which is a forty minute train ride from Taipei, because I wanted to see a bit of' the country and I could
explore Taipei in between my treatments.
David arrived and we set out for Tao Yuan and he explained that Dr. Wang
would be supervising and administering my treatment.
When we arrived at the clinic, I realized that it was a maternity hospital, which
was no problem for me because I understood that people from all medical
disciplines were learning to administer Collateral Meridian Therapy.
As soon as I met Dr. Wang, her quiet confidence made me feel very relaxed. She
presented me with a very comprehensive set of questions about my medical
history. I had also brought a file containing my x rays and all the correspondence
between doctors and other medical practitioners I had seen in London.
Dr. Wang was very thorough and she listened carefully. made notes and
photocopied my file for her records. I felt safe with her.
Dr. Wang and her colleagues began the treatment which was like deep
acupressure and very painful, but I understood what they were trying to do
because I had read about the treatment.
Dr. Wang was very professional, but compassionate and spoke gently to me all the
way through the treatment. I must admit I was a little alarmed by the intensity of the pain, but Dr. Wang had told me that there were two options.
They could administer the treatment using asort of tens machine.
They could administer the treatment using acu pens, which were more painful,
but much more effective.
Since I was in pain anyway and I had travel led such a long distance and only
had three weeks, I opted for the acu pens.(I understand that now there is a much less
painful technique which is just as effective.)
By the end of the treatment I felt very emotional, but the pain in my elbow had
decreased radically, which in turn took some of the cramping away from my wrist.
l was so impressed by the instant relief from the Collateral Meridian Therapy that
I decided no matter how difficult it was I would have as many treatments
as required.l also felt a great affection for Dr. Wang almost immediately.
I marvelled that I had come from so far away and that she and I were brought
together in this way. Here was this very competent woman, living in a country
nearly halfway round the world from my home in London, who understood and
believed that she could help my condition.
Dr. Wang told me that she is a Christian and that she was praying for me.
I am not a Christian, but I do believe that the energy involved in praying for
someone is very positive, so I was extremely grateful.
Dr. Wang spoke with enormous pride and respect about her association with Dr.
Ko who had developed this marvelous treatment and explained that he was in
Taipei and had agreed to treat me on one of his visits to the hospital the
following week.
Dr. Ko and sorue of his colleagues treated me and I had further relief from
some of the extreme pains I had been experiencing. Dr.Ko's prognosis was that
CMT could work in my case, but that it would take roughly nine months.
I was glad of the gentle talks that Dr. Wang and I had regarding me coming back
to Taipei for nine months. I was very willingto find a way to do it, but eventually when I got back to London it became clear to methat it was too difficult to leave
my life on hold for such a long time and be away from family and friends.
I had made such good friends in Taipei though, that I still miss them now - a year later.
After returning to England, although I was still experiencing a Iot of pain, Enrac
CMT had removed enough of the pain for me to work on other therapies.
Almost two years since I was injured I am now pain free, but I will always
be grateful to Dr. Ko and Dr. Wang and all at Enrac.
Everything that I have achieved since returning from Taiwan was only possible due to their successful treatment of the extreme level of pain that I was experiencing
prior to the CMT.
I am so excited to hear that Enrac CMT will be available in Europe,
as there are so many people who needlessly suffer pain who will now have
access to this marvellous treatment. Dr. Ko must feel so proud that he has developed a treatment which can give people their lives back after living in pain.
I feel proud that I have met him and Dr.Wang.
